Attractions

Parish church of Saint-Pierre in Artalens

The Romanesque church has a 70 cm Christ monogram on a modified lintel . It is surrounded by a wreath of foliage and has an upside-down "S". After the earthquake in 1854, the church building was redesigned. Inside there is a tabernacle from the 18th century with two statuettes of the apostles Peter and Paul . The earlier statuette on top of the tabernacle under a dome has been replaced by a wooden cross. An unusual and rare statue by Bernadette Soubirous is probably made of terracotta . The work is emblazoned on a pedestal and shows the saint without her right wooden shoe and with the stocking in her hand. It is reminiscent of the crossing of the Gave de Pau before her apparition of Mary . The statue is signed "Ozone" and dated from 1995.
