The canton of La Vallée des Gaves is a French canton in the Argelès-Gazost arrondissement , in the Hautes-Pyrénées department and in the Occitanie region ; its capital is Argelès-Gazost .
history
The canton was created when the French cantons were redistributed in 2015. Its communes come from the former cantons of Argelès-Gazost (all 23 communes), Luz-Saint-Sauveur (all 17 communes) and Aucun (all 10 communes). As a result of the merger of the municipalities of Gavarnie and Gèdre to form the new municipality of Gavarnie-Gèdre on January 1, 2016 and the incorporation of the Vizos municipality into the Saligos municipality on January 1, 2017, the number of municipalities fell to 48.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four pairs of candidates achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the pairing Louis Armary / Chantal Robin-Rodrigo (both PRG) won against Jacques Behague / Laurence Boileau (both Union de la Droite | UD) with a share of the vote of 55.20% (voter turnout: 56, 52%).
