The canton of Aureilhan is a French constituency in the Arrondissement of Tarbes in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region ; its capital is Aureilhan .

The canton is located in the northern half of the department east of the city of Tarbes .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Aureilhan included the four municipalities of Aureilhan , Bours , Chis and Orleix . Its layout corresponded to an area of 26.14 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 6521.

history
The canton was created in 1973 from parts of the then cantons of Tarbes-Nord and Tarbes-Sud and consisted of 15 municipalities from 1973 to 1982. On January 20, 1982, it was reduced in size by the establishment of the new canton of Bordères-sur-l'Échez . When the cantons were reorganized in 2015, Bours, Chis and Orleix moved to other cantons. At the same time, the municipalities of Séméac and Soues came to the canton of Aureilhan.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the pairing Jean Glavany / Geneviève Isson (both PS) won against Emilie Favaro / Michel Ricaud (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 70.54% (turnout: 53.87%).
