La Vallée de la Barousse is a French canton in the Arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre , in the Hautes-Pyrénées department and in the Occitanie region ; its main town is Lannemezan .

history

The canton was created when the French cantons were redistributed in 2015. Its communes come from the former cantons of Mauléon-Barousse (all 25 communes), Saint-Laurent-de-Neste (all 11 communes), Lannemezan (8 of the 25 communes) and Castelnau-Magnoac (1 of the 29 municipalities).

The canton is located in the very east of the Hautes-Pyrénées department.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Laurent Lages / Pascale Peraldi (both PRG) won against Josette Durrieu / Alain Piaser (both PS ) with a share of the vote of 52.67% (turnout: 62.06%).
