Tibiran-Jaunac ( Occitan : Tibiran e Jaunac ) is a French commune with 312 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the canton of La Vallée de la Barousse (until 2015: canton of Saint-Laurent-de-Neste ). The inhabitants are called Tibirannais-Jaunacais / Tibirannaises-Jaunacaises .
geography
Tibiran-Jaunac is located around 43 kilometers southeast of the city of Tarbes in the east of the Hautes-Pyrénées department on the border with the Haute-Garonne department. The community consists of the villages of Jaunac and Tibiran and several scattered settlements. The Garonne forms a natural eastern municipal boundary in parts. Large areas are wooded. The highest point in the municipality is Le Picon in the west of the municipality. In terms of traffic, the community is located on the D72 a few kilometers south of the A64 .
Tibiran-Jaunac is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mazères-de-Neste in the north, Gourdan-Polignan (in the Haute-Garonne department) in the northeast, Seilhan (in the Haute-Garonne department) in the east, and Labroquère (in the Haute-Garonne department) in the southeast , Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges (in the Haute-Garonne department) in the south, Générest in the southwest and Aventignan in the west.
history
Cave paintings in two grottos and remains from the Gallo-Roman period attest to early settlement. The place Tibiran appears as Tebiran for the first time in Comminges' copial book . In the Middle Ages, the place was within the Armagnac region, which in turn was part of the Gascogne province. The parish belonged to the district La Barthe from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Tibiran-Jaunac was within the canton of Saint-Laurent-de-Neste from 1793 to 2015 . The municipality has been part of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre arrondissement since 1801. Between 1790 and 1794 the two communities Tibiran and Jaunac merged to form the new community Tibiran-Jaunac.
