Arreau is a town in the south of France and a municipality with 773 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ).
Location and climate
The place Arreau is located in the Central Pyrenees in the valley of the Neste d'Aure and its tributary Neste du Louron on the connecting road from Col de Peyresourde to Col d'Aspin at an altitude of approx. 720 m . The climate is mild to temperate; Rain (approx. 910 mm / year) falls over the year.

Because of the increasing mechanization of agriculture , the population of the municipality has slowly but steadily decreased since the beginning of the 20th century.

history
In the Middle Ages, Arreau belonged to the county of Bigorre and was temporarily the capital of the Quatre Vallées ("Four Valleys Community"). The place was on a branch route of the Way of St. James (Chemin de la vallée d'Aure) .
