Mairie Seich

Seich ( Occitan Sèish ) is a French commune with 89 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality is part of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre arrondissement and the Neste Barousse municipal association founded in 2016 .

geography

The municipality of Seich is located in the Pyrenees between the Bigorre and Comminges landscapes , about 15 kilometers southeast of Lannemezan and about 30 kilometers northwest of the border with Spain . The 7.17 km² municipal area stretches six and a half kilometers to the south along the mountain rivers Ruisseau de Nistos and Ruisseau d'Arize into a wooded mountain wilderness that is no longer accessible by roads. The community does not have a grown village center, it consists of a collection of individual farms and small hamlets, from which Pied de Seich, Prat de Souil, Arize and Haussadets have a name. The town hall ( mairie ) is located in the north of the municipality at 655 m above sea level on a ridge.

To the west and east of the Arizetal, the area of ​​the municipality has a pronounced low mountain range with several peaks over 1000 m high . These include:

Seich is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Montégut in the north, Générest in the northeast, Sacoué in the southeast, Nistos in the west and Bize in the northwest.

Place name

At the time of the French church planting at the end of the 18th century, there were the spellings Saiches and Seiches . It is believed that the place name can be derived from the Latin saxum for stone, rock .

Administrative affiliation

During the Ancien Régime Seich belonged to the Sénéchaussée of Toulouse in the Pays des Quatre-Vallées , the Valley of Barousse and the Barony of Bize . In 1790 Seich came to the canton of Nestier , whose main town was relocated to Saint-Laurent-de-Neste in 1870 . The area around the hamlets of Arize and Haussadets came in 1964 from the municipality of Sacoué to the municipality of Seich.

In 2012, the total number of apartments in the municipality was 572. Of these, 55.3% were main residences, 35.4% were second homes and 9.3% were vacant.

There is no church or chapel in Seich. The Ascension Church ( Église de l'Assomption ) in the neighboring town of Nistos-Bas is responsible for pastoral care .

Economy and Infrastructure

Seich is rural. Seven farms are located in the municipality (feed cultivation, cattle, sheep and goat farming). The municipality is not developed in terms of tourism. A ski area ( Station de Nistos-Cap Nestès ) is located a few kilometers southwest of Seich in the municipality of Nistos.

The municipality of Seich is located in a remote mountain area that can only be reached from the north. To the south, the D 375 road ends as a dead end at the Grange Barrail farmstead at 825 m above sea level . There is a connection to the A645 autoroute in the municipality of Montréjeau , 17 kilometers northeast . The closest train station on the Toulouse – Bayonne railway line is also located here .
