Escots is a French commune with 34 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the canton of La Vallée de l'Arros et des Baïses (until 2015: canton of Lannemezan ).

The inhabitants are called Escotois and Escotoises .

Escots is located about nine kilometers east of Bagnères-de-Bigorre in the historic vice-county of Nébouzan .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 325 by the middle of the 19th century. Subsequently, with brief recovery periods, the size of the community fell to a low of around 25 by the first decade of the 21st century, before a period of growth began.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens is consecrated to Saint Peter in chains from the Acts of St. Luke . The current building was erected in 1878 and has an apse , the pillars of which are older. The bell tower collapsed in a storm in 1947 and was rebuilt in 1997.
