The municipality's capital is over 1000  m on the right slope of the Vallée d'Aure , through which the Neste d'Aure river runs. The place is about 50 km southeast of Lourdes . The community has an extremely low population density, partly due to its altitude.

The municipality is located west of the valley municipality of Saint-Lary-Soulan in the Pyrenees National Park . The ski area of ​​this municipality is also partly in the municipality of Cadeilhan-Trachère.
