Mazères-de-Neste ( Gascon : Maseras (de Nestés) ) is a French commune with 330 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the canton of La Vallée de la Barousse (until 2015: canton of Saint-Laurent-de-Neste ). The inhabitants are called Mazériens / Mazériennes .
geography
Mazères-de-Neste is located around 42 kilometers southeast of the city of Tarbes in the east of the Hautes-Pyrénées department on the border with the Haute-Garonne department. The municipality consists of the village of Mazères-de-Neste, the hamlet of Sarradou and numerous scattered settlements. The village of Mazères-de-Neste is north of the Neste . The Garonne forms the municipal and departmental border with Gourdan-Polignan. In terms of traffic, the municipality is located on the D71 and D710. The A64 crosses the north of the municipality.
Mazères-de-Neste is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cuguron (in the Haute-Garonne department) in the north, Montréjeau (in the Haute-Garonne department) in the northeast and east, Gourdan-Polignan (in the Haute-Garonne department) in the east, and Tibiran-Jaunac in the southeast, Aventignan in the southwest and Saint-Paul in the west and northwest.
history
The place appears for the first time indirectly as de Maseriis in the year 1387 in the church register of Comminges. In the Middle Ages, the place was within the Comminges region, which in turn was part of the Gascogne province. The parish belonged to the district La Barthe from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Mazères-de-Neste was from 1793 to 2015 within the canton of Saint-Laurent-de-Neste (1801 to 1870 canton Nestier). The municipality has been part of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre arrondissement since 1801. Until 1953, the name of the municipality was Mazères.
