Vaxxed: The Shocking Truth ("From Cover-Up to Catastrophe") is a 2016 American propaganda film alleging that the CDC covered up an alleged link between MMR vaccinations and autism . Variety says the film purports to investigate the claims of a senior CDC scientist who claims to have exposed the alleged manipulation and destruction of data from a study on autism and the MMR vaccine (“purports to investigate the claims of a senior scientist at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who revealed that the CDC had allegedly manipulated and destroyed data on an important study about autism and the MMR vaccine ”).

It was directed by Andrew Wakefield , a vaccine opponent whose UK medical license was revoked after serious ethical misconduct was found in his study of autism and MMR.

The film, selected by Robert De Niro , was due to premier at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival , but was withdrawn after widespread protests opposed to providing a forum for Wakefield to spread its long-disproved claims.

Instead, Cinema Libre took over distribution, and the film premiered on April 1, 2016 at the Angelika Film Center in New York City , in front of a few dozen viewers.

Michèle Rivasi suggested against the will of her group that the film be shown in the European Parliament; this was refused.

Busch Media took over the German distribution. A cinema in Hanover had planned a showing of the film followed by a discussion between Wakefield and experts. The director of the cinema stated that he had canceled the event for "security reasons" (after hateful comments on Facebook and a threat to a cinema employee). Karlsruhe and Kinopolis also distanced themselves. In contrast, the Babylon Berlin cinema, which is subsidized by the Senate with around 360,000 euros per year, showed the film in April. The film was also shown in other cinemas in Germany.

The successor Vaxxed 2: The People's Truth premiered in the US in early November 2019. For Germany, the theatrical release was in around 30 cinemas at the end of February. In Vaxxed 2, as in the previous film, anti-vaccination and scientifically refuted claims are shown. One of the producers is vaccination opponent Robert Francis Kennedy junior .
