Michèle Rivasi (born February 9, 1953 in Montélimar , Département Drôme ) is a French politician (EELV). Rivasi has been a member of the European Parliament since 2009 , she was re-elected in 2014 and 2019 , and is a member of the Greens / EFA group .

Life

Rivasi studied biology to become a teacher at the École normal supérieure de Lyon . After completing her studies, she worked as a teacher at the École normal supérieure Lettres et sciences humaines . In 1986, after the Chernobyl disaster , she founded the Commission de recherche et d'information indépendantes sur la radioactivité .

From September 2003 to November 2004 she was the director of Greenpeace in France. Rivasi has been a member of the European Parliament since July 2009 . She was re-elected in the 2014 European elections.

In 2019, her party nominated her again for the electoral list of the 2019 European elections : She received second place on the joint list of Europe Écologie-Les Verts (EELV), Alliance écologiste indépendante (AEI) and Régions et peuples solidaires . The joint list won 13.43 percent, 13 of the 79 French mandates, including Rivasi. She rejoined the Greens / EFA group . For her parliamentary group, she is a member of the Development Committee and Budgetary Control Committee in the ninth legislative period . She is also an alternate member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety .

According to her own statements, she describes herself as a “ vaccine skeptic ” and poses as a strong advocate of alternative medicine and homeopathy .
