The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the canton of La Vallée de l'Arros et des Baïses (until 2015: canton of Lannemezan ).

The inhabitants are called Esconnésiens and Esconnésiennes .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of 180 by the middle of the 19th century. Subsequently, the size of the community fell to a low of around 25 with brief recovery periods by the first decade of the 21st century before a period of growth began .
