Avajan is a French commune with 78 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the canton of Neste, Aure et Louron (previously Bordères-Louron ).

The location of the municipality's capital is on the left flank of the valley called Vallée du Louron , above the Neste du Louron river , which runs through Bordères-Louron at the bottom of the valley . The majority of the municipal area is predominantly impassable mountainous terrain at high altitudes and forests up to 1600 meters. As this is hardly populated, the overall population density is extremely low.

Attractions

The municipality has several cultural monuments that are classified as Monument historique . This includes the parish church of St. Blaise ( Saint-Blaise ) from the third quarter of the 20th century. In 2001, the Avajan community acquired an old farm to convert it into an event hall. The project was implemented in 2009.
