Attractions

Parish Church of Saint Martin

Although there are few mentions of the church in the records, it obviously has its origins in the Middle Ages , as it is built in the middle of an enclosure on a circular artificial hill, the place of a moth . In 1792 the parish obtained permission to move the rich furniture from the Médous chapel near Bagnères-de-Bigorre into the church. In the 19th century, repairs were made, such as the round wall around the cemetery and the construction of a gallery inside the church.

The church has a single nave , which is closed in the east by a polygonal apse and in the west with a square bell tower . Side chapels flank the nave on the north and south sides. The choir is illuminated through three arched windows. The nave is clad with paneling , the choir is embellished with wall paintings that were created before the French Revolution . The Assumption of Mary is shown, framed by God the Father and Christ carrying his cross. The scene is completed on the left with depictions of the fallen angels and the Archangel Michael defeating the dragon, and on the right with a depiction of John the Baptist . This work spreads out above a large canopy on painted and gilded wood, which is supported by six high columns and originally comes from the chapel of Médous.

The church has been inscribed as a Monument historique since May 24, 2018 . Likewise, the altar with its canopy from the 18th century, a lecture cross made of painted and gilded wood from the 18th century and a chalice from the 17th century are classified or inscribed as a monument historique .
