Luc is a French commune with 213 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of La Vallée de l'Arros et des Baïses (until 2015: canton of Tournay ).

The inhabitants are called Lucais and Lucaises .

Luc is located about twelve kilometers southeast of Tarbes in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) in the historic county of Bigorre .

Population development

After records began, the number of inhabitants rose to a high of around 525 by the second half of the 19th century. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell to its lowest level of around 160 inhabitants, with brief recovery phases by the first decade of the 21st century. before a growth phase began that continues to this day.

Attractions

Parish Church of Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste. The church, consecrated to the Evangelist John , was built on very old foundations in the 18th century. The nave has a main aisle and a north aisle , which are separated by three arcades . The entrance is on the south side, the gallery and the bell tower on the west side. The bell tower has been inscribed as a Monument historique since March 9, 1979 .
