Calavanté is a French commune with 335 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of La Vallée de l'Arros et des Baïses (until 2015: canton of Tournay ).

The inhabitants are called Calavantais and Calavantaises .

Calavanté is located about eight kilometers southeast of Tarbes in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) in the historic province of Bigorre .

Population development

After the records began, the population rose to an initial high of around 245 at the beginning of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 85 inhabitants during short recovery phases until the 1960s, before a phase with at times strong growth began, which continues to this day and means that the previous high level of the population is already far exceeded.
