Sanous ( Occitan Sanós ) is a southern French municipality with 98 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region .
Location and climate
The municipality of Sanous is located in the foothills of the Pyrenees at an altitude of about 220 m . The nearest city, Tarbes, is a good 24 km southeast. The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 830 mm / year) falls mainly in the winter half-year.

Because by the phylloxera crisis in the wine sector and the increasing mechanization of agriculture caused rural exodus , the population of the municipality continuously declined since the end of the 19th century.

history
The place name is of Gallo-Roman origin, but an estate ( villa rustica ) from this period has not yet been discovered. Only from the 13th century do we find out about the existence of a settlement. From the Middle Ages until the beginning of the French Revolution , the municipality was part of the historic Bigorre province .
