Caharet is a French commune with 37 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of La Vallée de l'Arros et des Baïses (until 2015: canton of Tournay ).

The inhabitants are called Caharetais and Caharetaises .

Caharet is located about 22 kilometers southeast of Tarbes in the historic vice-county of Nébouzan .

Population development

After the beginning of the records, the population rose to the first half and again in the middle of the 19th century to a high of around 115 each. In the following period, the size of the community decreased with a marked decline at the beginning of the 20th century with short recovery phases to 25 inhabitants in the 1990s, before a moderate growth phase set in, which continues to this day.

The Autoroute A64 , called La Pyrénéenne , touches the area of the municipality on the western edge without a direct exit to the place. The closest exit 15 is approx. 6.5 kilometers away and serves the municipality of Capvern .
