Bernadets Debat lies in the catchment areas of the Garonne and Adour rivers .
The Osse , a tributary of the Gélise , has its source in Bernadets-Debat and forms the natural border with the neighboring municipalities of Sarraguzan and Fontrailles to the east. The Joulard and the Courrie-Longue are two tributaries of the Osse and also arise on the territory of the municipality.

The Bouès , a tributary of the Arros , marks the border with the neighboring municipalities of Estampures, Mazerolles and Antin to the west. The Ruisseau d'Antin flows into the Bouès at the point where the areas of the municipalities of Bernadets-Debat, Mazerolles and Antin meet. The Picharrot is a right tributary of the Bouès and has its source in Bernadets-Debat.
Toponymy
The Occitan name of the community is Vernadèth Devath. The first part of the name has its origin in Gascognischen vèrn ( German alder ) with a suffix -etam and a diminishing suffix -èth , which emerged from the Latin suffix -ellum . It can therefore be translated as "small alder forest". The second part of the name is a derivative of the Gascognischen devath ("north" in relation to Bernadets-Dessus).
Nicknames of the residents of the community are Los heishotèrs ( German the pavers or traders of bundles of brushwood ) and Los taishons ( German the badgers ).
