Lanespède is a French commune with 150 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of La Vallée de l'Arros et des Baïses (until 2015: canton of Tournay ).

The inhabitants are called Lanespédiens and Lanespédiennes or Lanespédois and Lanespédoises .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 485 by the first half of the 19th century. Lanespède can be reached via Routes départementales 134 and 817, the former Route nationale 117 .

The Autoroute A64 , called La Pyrénéenne , crosses the municipality, but without a direct exit to the village. The closest exit 14 is about three kilometers away and serves the municipality of Tournay .

A line of the TER Occitanie , a regional train of the national SNCF , serves the route from Pau to Toulouse , which crosses the area of ​​the municipality without a stop. The railway line also crosses the Lanespède viaduct. The nearest train station is in Tournay.
