history

Rabastens-de-Bigorre is a bastide and was founded on February 13, 1306 by the Seneschal Wilhelm von Rabastens. The Gothic church, which was built later, is a special, architecturally outstanding example of its time. In July 1570, the battle between the royal troops under Blaise de Montluc and the Protestants took place here. In 1594 the Château of Rabastens-de-Bigorre was razed. In order to distinguish it from Rabastens in the Tarn department , Rabastens was expanded in 1962 to include the location-defining addition (Rabastens- de-Bigorre ).
