Villenave-près-Béarn ( Vièlanava in Occitan ) is a municipality in the foothills of the Pyrenees in southern France with 59 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Occitania region . The community belonged to the historic county of Bigorre , but had been an exclave in the area of the viceroy Béarn to the west from time immemorial .
Location and climate
The municipality of Villenave-près-Béarn lies in the foothills of the Pyrenees at an altitude of approximately 350 m . The nearest city, Tarbes , is about 30 km southeast. The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 885 mm / year) falls mainly in the winter half-year.

Because of the rural exodus caused by the phylloxera crisis in viticulture at the beginning of the 20th century and the increasing mechanization of agriculture , the population of the municipality has decreased significantly since the 1920s.

The community is almost flat and oriented exclusively towards agriculture.
history
Villenave has probably been part of the former Bigorre county since the 9th or 10th century . Strangely enough, the special geographical position as an exclave remained in place during the territorial reorganization of the French national territory during the French Revolution . The old place name Vialenabe is first documented in 1670.
Attractions
Those from the 16./17. The church, which dates back to the 18th century, is surrounded by the local cemetery and has a small bell gable (clocher mur) on a buttress in front of it , which also stabilizes the masonry of the facade.
