Oléac-Dessus ( Occitan Auliac Dessús ) is a French commune with 120 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and to the community association Coteaux du Val d'Arros, founded in 2016 . The inhabitants are called Oléacais .
geography
The municipality of Oléac-Dessus is located in the north of the Bigorre landscape in the foothills of the Pyrenees , about 19 kilometers southeast of the departmental capital Tarbes and 20 kilometers northwest of Lannemezan . The 3.72 km² large municipal area is bordered in the east by the Arrêt river . Oléac-Dessus is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Tournay in the north, Poumarous in the east and south-east, Luc in the south-west and Oueilloux in the west.
Place name
In 1086 the place name first appeared as Oleag . The name developed from De Oleaco (1313) and De Oleato (1379) to Oleac dessus on a Cassini card at the end of the 18th century . The name Oléac is derived from the Latin personal name Olius ; with the suffix -acum there is the domain of olius . Dessus stands for above , in this case above Oléac-Debat .

Oléac-Dessus has a rural character. There are 14 farms in the community (cattle and horse breeding).
The municipality of Oléac-Dessus has good transport links. In Tournay , eight kilometers away, there are connections to the trunk road network and the A64 autoroute . Tournay is also the closest train station - on the Toulouse – Bayonne railway line .
