Hibarette ( Occitan Hibarèta ) is a French commune with 246 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality is part of the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées municipal association founded in 2016 .

The municipality of Hibarette is located in the north of the Bigorre landscape in the foothills of the Pyrenees , about six kilometers south of the capital of the department Tarbes and ten kilometers northeast of the pilgrimage site of Lourdes . The Échez flows through the northwest of the 1.53 km² municipal area . Hibarette is surrounded by the neighboring communities Louey in the north, Saint-Martin in the east and Bénac in the southwest.

The name is derived from the Latin Ripa fracta = steep Bamk . The village was first mentioned in 1065 as Aribafreyta . The name developed from De Ripa Freyta (1313), De Ribafracta (1342), de Rippa Fracta (1379), Ribafreyte and Riba Freyte (1429) to the names Hibaréte (1768) and Hibarete (at the end of the 18th Century).

Economy and Infrastructure

Hibarette is partly rural. Eleven farms are located in the municipality (grain cultivation, cattle breeding).

The municipality of Hibarette has good transport connections. Four kilometers to the west of Lourdes Airport there are connections to the trunk road network ( Route nationale 21 ) and the A64 autoroute . In Tarbes also the nearest railway station is at the Toulouse-Bayonne railway .
