The Lourdes Airport ( fr. Aéroport International Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées ) is a south-western French Airport between Lourdes and Tarbes in the Hautes-Pyrenees . The company Tarmac Aerosave , which is responsible for the maintenance and storage of aircraft, is based here (next to the one at Teruel Airport ).

history

After the occupation of Vichy France by the German Wehrmacht at the end of 1942 , a command of the German Air Force took over the airfield. From the beginning of April 1943 Tarbes was the base of the 3rd squadron of Jagdgeschwader 101 , it was here until the beginning of 1944. In addition, the 1st squadron of Jagdgruppe West on Bf 109E / F / G and Fw 190A was here between the end of April 1943 and mid-May 1944 stationed. In mid-June 1944, some He 177s of the 6th Squadron of Kampfgeschwader 40 were used again for a week .

Directions

The airport is located 10 km north of Lourdes and 10 km southwest of Tarbes in the municipality of Ossun and can be reached via the RN 21 national road .

Aircraft parking area

Since 2017, Lourdes Airport has been increasingly used as an aircraft graveyard , where aircraft are parked during temporary decommissioning, or else cannibalized and recycled.

The airport has numerous aircraft parking spaces that are not required for ongoing operations. Therefore, Tarmac Aerospace is marketing 25 parking spaces that are temporarily not needed by leasing companies and airlines. For example, some of the planes of the insolvent Air Berlin were parked in Tarbes. The airport is currently also used to park the first Airbus A380 ( aircraft registration number 9V-SKA ) to be retired by Singapore Airlines . The aircraft is owned by one of the Dr. Peters Group managed leasing funds and has not yet found any subsequent users. A hangar for aircraft up to the size of the A380 is available for repair and recycling work. Since the beginning of 2019, the first A380 delivered for scheduled service has been dismantled here so that the individual parts can be reused.
