Réunion International Airport ( French Aéroport de La Réunion Roland Garros , English formerly Gillot Airport ) is a commercial airport on the French island of Réunion off the East African coast in the Indian Ocean. The airport also serves as a military airfield for the French air forces , who call the base Détachement air 181 Réunion (DA 181) "Lieutenant Roland Garros".
It is the main airport on the island. It is located about 10 km east of Saint-Denis on the northern tip of the island. The airport operator is the local Chamber of Commerce ( Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de la Réunion ). The airport was named after the French aviation pioneer Roland Garros , who was born in Saint-Denis in 1888.
Airport infrastructure
The airport infrastructure consists of a tower, two asphalt runways and a terminal. The airport is designed for the Airbus A340 , Airbus A380 , Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 models, among others . ILS is only offered for lane 14.

The airport is the aviation hub of Air Austral (Reunion).
Incidents
- On March 8, 1968 ( GMT ) a Douglas DC-6B of the French Air Force (Armée de l'air) ( registration number 43748 ) flew into a hill. The pilots did not follow the prescribed departure procedure for the night take-off. Of the 17 inmates, 16 were killed.
