The Hao Airport is an airport on the island of Hao in French Polynesia . The airport is about eight kilometers northwest of the capital Otepa. The unusually long runway was built to allow large transport planes to land to carry the materials for nuclear tests. Today the airport is only used civilly.

Hao Airport was an emergency runway for NASA space shuttles .
