The Aéroport international Félix Éboué ( IATA code CAY , ICAO code SOCA until 2012 Aéroport Cayenne-Rochambeau ) is the international airport of the French overseas departments French Guiana . It is located around 16 kilometers southwest of the capital Cayenne .
history
The airport was built in 1943 under Governor Jean Rapenne for the United States Army Air Forces . On the occasion of a visit by French President Nicolas Sarkozy in January 2012, the airport was officially named after the colonial politician Félix Éboué . Born in Cayenne, Éboué was one of the leaders of Free France in Africa during World War II .

The airport is not served directly from German-speaking countries. Air France and Air Caraïbes also fly to it via Paris-Orly . Air France also flies to Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe, Fort-de-France in Martinique, Port-au-Prince in Haiti and Miami . Azul Linhas Aéreas serves Fortaleza and Belém in Brazil once a week . Air Guyane Express connects it with various domestic destinations.
Military use
The base aérienne 367 Cayenne-Rochambeau (BA367) of the French air force is also located at Aéroport international Félix Éboué . The base houses (as of 2015) the ET 0/68 "Antille Guyane", a transport group of the air force with CN235-200 , SA330 and AS555 (since July 2012). There are also some non-flying formations.
