Thomas Degand (born May 13, 1986 in Ronse ) is a Belgian cyclist .
Athletic career
Degand first drove in 2007 and 2008 for the Belgian UCI Continental Team Storez-Ledecq Matériaux , which in 2008 was called Groupe Gobert.com . In 2009 he moved to Veranda's Willems , which changed its name several times in the following years and received a license as a UCI Professional Continental Team from 2011 . Degand won his first competitions on the international calendar in 2010 with the one-day races Circuit de Wallonie and Flèche Ardennaise and the Belgian championship title for elite drivers without a professional contract in the individual time trial . In 2014 he was second overall and stage winner of the Tour du Gévaudan Languedoc-Roussillon .
In the 2015 season Degand rode for the UCI WorldTeam IAM Cycling before returning to his previous team. He contested his first Grand Tour with the Vuelta a España in 2015 . He had to give up the tour on the ninth stage due to the consequences of a fall.
After Degand achieved his greatest career success to date with the overall ranking of the Tour du Jura Cycliste in May 2007 , the rest of the season was marked by falls: During the Tour de France , he fell during a rest day while he was training and a dog in front of his bike ran. He was able to continue the tour and finished 34th in the overall ranking. In September of that year he was hit by a jury's car during the Grand Prix de Wallonie and then had to give up the race.
