In 1981 Nairobi , Durban and Johannesburg were added to the route network. A Boeing 747-SP was leased from South African Airways in 1984, with which one flew to Paris , Singapore and Munich-Riem .
In 1988 the old Boeing 707 was replaced by a more modern Boeing 767-200ER . The Airbus A340-300 was added to the fleet in 1994. In 2005 Air Mauritius received two Airbus A319-100s , followed in 2006 by two Airbus A340-300 E , an improved version with an increased maximum take-off weight, which replaced the Boeing 767, which was phased out at the beginning of 2007. In 2007 and 2009, an Airbus A330-200 joined the fleet.
At the end of 2008, a revised logo was presented to symbolize new goals. The Paille en Queue , a mythical tropical bird, should also give new lift. At the beginning of 2008, a new two-class variant was introduced in the machines, and new uniforms were introduced in October 2008.
On July 16, 2014, Air Mauritius ordered six Airbus A350-900s at Farnborough International Airshow . Four will be bought directly from Airbus and two will be leased from AerCap . The first A350 leased from AerCap was delivered on October 20, 2017.
On April 22nd, 2020 Air Mauritius was placed under voluntary bankruptcy administration.

Planned alliance
A first alliance of African airlines between Air Mauritius, South African Airways , RwandAir and Kenya Airways is planned for March 2019. Together we want to achieve greater efficiency through size in order to better meet the market leader in Africa Ethiopian . Mauritius is planned as a joint hub.
This alliance has been discussed since at least September 2017. Air Mauritius flies profitably, but the other 3 intended alliance partners are consistently in deficit in 2015-2018.
