Caixon is a French commune with 375 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of Vic-en-Bigorre .

The inhabitants are called Caixonais and Caixonaises .

Caixon is located about 20 kilometers north of Tarbes in the historic province of Bigorre on the western border with the neighboring department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 580 by the second half of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 315 with brief recovery phases until after the Second World War , before a relatively short growth phase into the The 1960s began and by the 1980s the size dropped back to around 305 inhabitants. Thereafter, a new phase of growth extended until the end of the first decade of the 19th century, before the population recorded a decline that continues to this day.
