The inhabitants are called Artagnanais and Artagnanaises .

Artagnan is located about 19 kilometers north of Tarbes in the historic province of Bigorre on the north-western edge of the department.

Artagnan is located in the catchment area of the Adour River , the center of the municipality is on its left bank. The Ruisseau de Dibès, a tributary of the Adour, flows along a small section of the border with the neighboring municipality of Sarriac-Bigorre.

Toponymy

The Occitan name of the community is Artanhan. It comes from the Latin proper name Artanius together with the suffix -anum , the name for the estate of Artanius in Gallo-Roman times .

Nicknames of the community are Los pèpis ( German  the idiots ) and Los pè-descaus ( German  the barefoot ).
