Labatut-Rivière is a French commune with 397 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of Val d'Adour-Rustan-Madiranais (until 2015: canton of Maubourguet ).
The inhabitants are called Labatutois and Labatutoises .

Labatut-Rivière is located about 33 kilometers north of Tarbes in the Rivière-Basse natural landscape on the northern border with the neighboring Gers department .

Population development
After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 860 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, with brief recovery periods, the size of the community fell to a low of around 340 inhabitants before the first decade of the 21st century A growth phase began that continues today.

- Labatut Castle with origins from the 14th century. Its facades and roofs as well as the staircase with their vaults have been inscribed as Monument historique since November 25, 1982 .

Personalities
- Pierre de Fondeville-Labatut, born on May 17, 1752 in Saint-Mamet ( Haute-Garonne department ), died in 1817 or 1828, was Viscount of Labatut, abbot of a lay monastery in Labatut and baron of Montagnan, lived in the castle of Labatut. When the French Revolution broke out, he became head of the national guard and mayor of Tarbes in 1790. During the French consulate , the First Empire and the Restoration , he was mayor of Labatut and president of the departmental council of Hautes-Pyrénées until his death .
- Antoine Sempé, born on November 18, 1863 in Tarbes, died on December 1, 1922 in Tarbes, was a French politician. He was from November 16, 1919 to December 1, 1922 a member of the département in the National Assembly and from May 6, 1900 until his death mayor of Labatut-Rivière.
