Lhez is a French commune with 77 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of La Vallée de l'Arros et des Baïses (until 2015: canton of Tournay ).

The inhabitants are called Lhézéens and Lhézéennes .

Lhez is about eleven kilometers east-southeast of Tarbes in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) in the historic county of Bigorre .

Population development

After records began, the number of inhabitants rose to a peak of around 215 by the middle of the 19th century. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell with brief recovery phases until after the Second World War , when it stabilized at a level of around 80 inhabitants. which is held until today.

Lhez is crossed by Route départementale 817, the former Route nationale 117 .

The Autoroute A64 , called La Pyrénéenne , crosses the southern municipality, but without a direct exit to the village. The closest exit 14 is about six kilometers away and serves the municipality of Tournay .

Long-distance trains of the national SNCF and trains of a line of the TER Occitanie , a regional train of the SNCF, run the route from Pau to Toulouse , which crosses the territory of the municipality without a stop. The nearest train station is in Tournay.
