Laran is a French commune with 48 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of Les Coteaux (until 2015: canton Castelnau-Magnoac ).

The inhabitants are called Laranais and Laranaises .

Laran is located about 33 kilometers east of Tarbes in the historic province of Quatre-Vallées on the eastern edge of the department.

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of 200 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community decreased with brief recovery phases, until it stabilized in the 1960s at a level of around 45 inhabitants, which is up to held today.
