Andrest is a French commune with 1,396 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ). It is located in the Arrondissement of Tarbes and belongs to the canton of Vic-en-Bigorre .

geography

Andrest covers 6.19 square kilometers and is located about ten kilometers north of Tarbes in the Bigorre 2.5 kilometers west of the Adour and about 2.5 kilometers east of the Échez . The former national route 135 runs through the municipality .

history

Archaeological finds from the Neolithic and Gallo-Roman epochs are available. In the northeast of the municipality is the 10th century Motte Fossoyée . Arnaud, Count of Bigorre, had a new church and a new château built in 1303, so the place is classified as a bastide . In 1762 the château was destroyed, in 1776 the municipal administration was established.

Attractions

Next to the Motte Fossoyée, the Saint-Barthélémy church has existed since the 14th century.
