Renaud Denauw , stage name Renaud (born November 28, 1936 in Mouscron ), is a Belgian comic artist.

Artistic career

Renaud attended the Saint-Luc Art School in Tournai , where he obtained a diploma in advertising and lithography. After working in advertising for about a year, he was involved in the adaptation of novels published by Fleuve Noir into comics for the Arédit booklet. In 1975 he was accepted as a draftsman at Dupuis and, based on texts by Jean-Marie Brouyère, drew the adventures of the time travelers Aymone for the Spirou magazine from 1975 to 1977. In 1978, the series Myrtille, Vidpoche et Cabochar was also created for the same magazine (co-author: Mittéï ).

Since 1979, Renaud also worked for the comic magazine Tintin . Here, based on texts by Jean-Luc Vernal , later Jean Dufaux , the series Brelan de dames (German: secret group Drilling ) was inspired by the television series Charlie's Angels . The series of gags Platon, Torloche et Coquinette was also created for the same magazine in 1983 .

In 1987, together with copywriter Dufaux and Jessica Blandy , Renaud presented the series that would become his most successful. Up to 2006, 24 albums were made here. In addition, a three-part sequel followed from 2009 to 2011 under the title La route Jessica . In this series about a crime novel writer, Renaud used a realistic style for the first time. Renaud's previous series had all been laid out in a humorous style.

Together with copywriter Dufaux, Renaud also tried shorter series such as Les enfants de la Salamandre (1988 to 1990, 1997; German: The children of the Salamander ), Santiag (1991 to 1996) and Venus H. (2005 to 2008).

German publications

The first publisher to make Renaud known in German-speaking countries was Ehapa . However, the publisher never finished a series. Only two albums were released by the secret group Drilling , and only one by Jessica Blandy . The fourth part is missing in the series The Children of the Salamander . Since 2010 the publisher Schreiber & Leser has published a small-format complete edition by Jessica Blandy .
