Castelnau-Rivière-Basse ( Occitan : Castèthnau de Ribèra Baisha ) is a French commune with 627 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of Val d'Adour-Rustan-Madiranais (until 2015: canton of Castelnau-Rivière-Basse ). The inhabitants are called Castelnauviens .

geography

Castelnau-Rivière-Basse is located about 52 kilometers northeast of the city of Pau and about 42 kilometers north of Tarbes on the border with the neighboring Gers department in the Aquitaine region . Castelnau-Rivière-Basse is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Goux in the north, Préchac-sur-Adour in the north-east, Jû-Belloc in the east, Hères in the south and south-east, Madiran in the south and west and Saint-Lanne in the west.

The municipality is part of the Béarn wine region . Wines from the Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh appellation are produced here.
