Mairie Fréchou-Fréchet

Fréchou-Fréchet ( Occitan Lo Hrèisho e Lo Hreishet ; 1801 still with the spelling Frechon ) is a French commune with 163 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and to the community association Coteaux du Val d'Arros, founded in 2016 . The inhabitants are called Fréchouais .

Between 1790 and 1794 the community was founded by the union of both sub-towns.

The municipality of Fréchou-Fréchet is located in the north of the Bigorre landscape in the foothills of the Pyrenees , about twelve kilometers southeast of the capital of the department, Tarbes and 22 kilometers east-northeast of Lourdes . The 2.97 km² large municipal area is bordered in the east by the Arrêt-Darré river . Fréchou-Fréchet is a scattered settlement, which is located on a plateau that rises slightly to the southwest. In addition to the numerous individual farms, the hamlets of Aoudet and Cap de Fréchou also belong to the municipality. Fréchou-Fréchet is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mascaras in the north, Oueilloux in the east, Hitte in the south, Barbazan-Dessus in the southwest and Montignac in the west.

Place name

The names of the two suburbs Fréchou and Fréchet first appeared in 1313 as De Freysho and De Freysheeto, respectively. Via the Latin names De Fraxino / De Fraxineto (1326) they developed further to Frexo / Frexiet (1429) to the on the Cassini Late 18th century cards used the names Frechou and Frechet . Both names probably came from the Latin fraxinus via the Gaskognisch hereisho for ash ; in the case of Fréchet with the Latin ending -etum for ash .

Fréchou-Fréchet has a rural character. Ten farms are located in the community (grain cultivation, horse and cattle breeding).

The municipality of Fréchou-Fréchet has good transport links. The D5 road runs through the east of the municipality from Rabastens-de-Bigorre to Bagnères-de-Bigorre . In the communities of Séméac and Tournay , each ten kilometers away, there are connections to the Autoroute A 64 . Tournay is also the closest train station - on the Toulouse – Bayonne railway line .
