Barry is a French commune with 125 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the Canton of Ossun .

The inhabitants are called Barrois and Barroises .

Barry is located about ten kilometers southwest of Tarbes in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) and about eight kilometers northeast of Lourdes in the historic county of Bigorre .

Barry is located in the river Adour catchment on the left bank of the Échez , one of its tributaries.

Toponymy

The Occitan name of the community is Barri. It comes from the Occitan barri ( German  distance, suburb ). This applies to the municipality, which was a suburb of Bénac until 1806.

Population development

After the records began, the population rose to a peak of around 150 at the beginning of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 60 with brief recovery phases until the 1960s, before a phase of at times strong growth began, the has recently stagnated again.
