Casterets is a French commune with 13 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of Les Coteaux (until 2015: canton Castelnau-Magnoac ).

The inhabitants are called Casteretais and Casteretaises .

Casterets is located about 43 kilometers east of Tarbes in the historic province of Quatre-Vallées on the northeastern border with the neighboring Gers department .

Population development

After records began, the number of inhabitants rose to a high of 95 by the first half of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community sank to a low of 5 inhabitants with short recovery phases until the turn of the millennium, before rising slightly and since then stabilized at a level of just over 10 inhabitants.
