Betbèze is a French commune with 45 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of Les Coteaux (until 2015: canton Castelnau-Magnoac ).
The inhabitants are called Betbezois and Betbezoises .

Betbèze is located about 42 kilometers east of Tarbes in the historic province of Quatre-Vallées on the northeastern edge of the department.

Betbèze is located in the catchment area of the Garonne River .
The Arrats , also called Canal de l' Arrat here, is a tributary of the Garonne and crosses the territory of the municipality together with its tributary, the Arrat de devant, which rises in Betbèze.
Betbèze is also irrigated by tributaries of the Gimone, the Ruisseau de Bartaus and the Ruisseau de la Garnère, which rises in Betbèze.
Toponymy
The Occitan name of the municipality is Bèthvéser. It has its origin in the Gascognic words bèth ( German beautiful, good ) and véser ( German see ) and thus means “place with a beautiful view”.

Population development
After records began, the population rose to a peak of 260 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 40 inhabitants during brief recovery periods until the 1980s, before increasing slightly and since the turn of the millennium stabilized at a level of around 45 inhabitants.

Saint-Brice chapel
The chapel was built at the end of the 11th or beginning of the 12th century. It was expanded in the 14th century. Wall paintings have been decorating your interior since the 14th or the beginning of the 15th century. The chapel including the wall paintings has been inscribed as a Monument historique since November 29, 1977 .
