Gensac is a French commune with 98 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Tarbes and the canton of Val d'Adour-Rustan-Madiranais (until 2015: canton of Rabastens-de-Bigorre ).

The inhabitants are called Gensacois and Gensacoises .

Gensac is located about 22 kilometers north of Tarbes in the historic county of Bigorre on the northwestern edge of the department.

Population development

After records began, the number of inhabitants rose to a high of around 140 by the first half of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to its lowest value of 55 inhabitants by the 1960s, with short recovery phases. At the turn of the millennium, a phase of growth began that continues to this day.
