The canton of Vic-en-Bigorre is a French constituency in the Arrondissement of Tarbes in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region ; its main town is Vic-en-Bigorre .

The canton is located in the northwest of the department. The communes Escaunets and Villenave-près-Béarn form an exclave of the canton in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department .

history

The canton was established in 1790 and changed its territory in 1801. Until 2015, it had 15 municipalities. When the cantons were reorganized in 2015, 7 of the 11 communes in the canton of Bordères-sur-l'Échez were added to the previous communes . The canton therefore currently has 22 municipalities.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton Vic-en-Bigorre included the 15 municipalities of Andrest , Artagnan , Caixon , Camalès , Escaunets , Marsac , Nouilhan , Pujo , Saint-Lézer , Sanous , Siarrouy , Talazac , Vic-en -Bigorre , Villenave-près-Béarn and Villenave-près-Marsac . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​98.67 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 6525.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four pairs of candidates achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Isabelle Lafourcade (DVG) / Bernard Poublan (PRG) won against Anne-Laure Latrille-Larmitou / Clément Menet (Union de la Droite) with 55.71% of the votes (turnout: 58 , 19%).
