The canton of Bordères-sur-l'Échez is a French constituency in the Arrondissement of Tarbes in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region ; its main town is Bordères-sur-l'Échez .

The canton is located in the northern half of the department on its western border to the west and north of the city of Tarbes .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Bordères-sur-l'Échez included the eleven municipalities of Aurensan , Bazet , Bordères-sur-l'Échez , Gayan , Ibos , Lagarde , Oroix , Oursbelille , Pintac , Sarniguet and Tarasteix . Its layout corresponded to an area of 100.11 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 6533.

history
The canton was created on January 20, 1982 by splitting off from the canton of Aureilhan . Until 2015 it had 11 parishes. When the cantons were reorganized in 2015, 7 of the 11 previous municipalities moved to the canton of Vic-en-Bigorre . In addition to the remaining 4 communes, 3 of the 4 communes of the canton Aureilhan were added. The canton therefore currently has 7 municipalities.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Jean Buron / Andrée Souquet (both PCF) won against Christian Paul / Gisèle Verdeil (both DVG ) with a share of the vote of 53.82% (voter turnout: 54.01%).
