Castex is a French commune with 86 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Mirande and the canton of Mirande-Astarac (until 2015: canton of Miélan ).

The inhabitants are called Castécois and Castécoises .

geography

Castex is located about 17 kilometers southwest of Mirande in the historic province of Armagnac on the southern border with the neighboring Hautes-Pyrénées department .

Castex is surrounded by the six neighboring communities:

Estampes	Miélan	Sadeillan
Estampures (Hautes-Pyrénées)		Sarraguzan
	Bernadets Debat (Hautes-Pyrénées)

Castex lies in the catchment areas of the Garonne and Adour rivers .

The Osse , a tributary of the Gélise , forms the natural border with the eastern neighboring communities of Sadeillan and Sarraguzan. The Ruisseau de Nauri flows along the southern border to the neighboring municipality of Bernadets-Debat and flows into the Osse in Castex.

The Bouès , a tributary of the Arros (river) , forms the natural border with the neighboring municipalities of Estampes and Estampures to the west.

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a high of around 405 by the first half of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to its lowest level of around 85 inhabitants before a phase, with intermittent recovery phases by the 1990s started with moderate growth.
