Montesquiou (also: Montesquiou-d'Armagnac , gaskognisch : Montesquiu ) is a French commune with 581 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitania region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Mirande , is part of the canton Pardiac-Rivière-Basse and was the capital of the canton Montesquiou until 2015 . The inhabitants are called Montesquivais .
geography
Montesquiou is about 20 kilometers west-southwest of Auch on the river Osse . Montesquiou is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Castelnau-d'Anglès in the north and north-west, Saint-Arailles in the north, Mirannes in the north-east, L'Isle-de-Noé in the east, Estipouy in the east and south-east, Mirande in the south-east, Monclar-sur- Losse and Pouylebon in the south and Bassoues in the west.
Montesquiou is located on the Via Tolosana , one of the four historical " Routes of the St. James pilgrims in France ".
