Saint Martin Church

Saint-Martin ( Occitan : Sent Martin ) is a French commune with 459 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitania region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Mirande and the municipality association Astarac Arros en Gascogne, founded in 2012 . The inhabitants call themselves Saint-Martinais .

Saint-Martin is located in the Astarac landscape in the east of the historical province of Gascogne in the northern foothills of the Lannemezan plateau in the hill country between the parallel rivers Osse and Baïse , about 25 kilometers southwest of the departmental capital Auch and two kilometers southwest of the arrondissements -Capital Mirande . In the west the community is bounded by the Osse tributary Lizet . The commune of Saint-Martin is a combination of several small villages, hamlets and farmhouses. The center of the community is the church of Saint-Martin with the nearby Mairie . The largest districts are Les Perdiguès, Darans, Souquet, Le Chicoy, Duffard, Pétroun, Le Pelut (partially), La Guignole, La Claverie, Libaros, La Bordeneuve, Souriac, Le Punton, Le Cantonnier, Tringouléou, La Poulogne and Le Pelon The latter has grown together with a mixed residential and commercial area in the city of Mirande. The terrain in the municipality is characterized by rolling hills and the alternation of fields, hedges and pastures. The few forest areas are smaller than 5 hectares. Saint-Martin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mirande in the north and east, Berdoues in the south-east, Saint-Maur in the south-west and Monclar-sur-Losse in the west and north-west.

Economy and Infrastructure

In the agricultural community of Saint-Martin there are 20 farms (cereal and vegetable growing, horse, cattle and poultry breeding).

The Route nationale 21 runs to the south of the commune of Saint-Martin . The town of Mirande , only two kilometers away, forms a local transport hub. In the city of Aire-sur-l'Adour , 55 kilometers to the west, there is a connection to the A65 autoroute . The train station in Auch , 25 kilometers away, offers connections to Toulouse , Eauze , Vic-en-Bigorre and Bon-Encontre .
