Labarthe is a French commune with 153 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Mirande (until 2016: Arrondissement Auch ) and the canton Astarac-Gimone (until 2015: Canton Auch-Sud-Est-Seissan ).

The inhabitants are called Labarthais and Labarthaises .

Labarthe is about 15 kilometers east-southeast of Mirande in the historic province of Armagnac .

Labarthe lies in the catchment area of the Garonne River .

The Gers , one of its left tributaries, flows along the eastern municipal boundary. Left tributaries of the Gers cross the territory of the municipality:

  • the Ruisseau de Larrazet,
  • the Ruisseau de Laubarie,
  • the Ruisseau du Boué and
  • the Cédon .

history

The original village was on the site of today's hamlet La Gleisette, between route départementale 929 and the river Gers. In the Middle Ages , the population moved to the Motte Matalane northwest of today's center. Under the Ancien Régime , the municipality was called Labarthe d'Astarac.

Population development

After the beginning of the records, the population rose to a high of 315 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period the size of the community sank with interim recovery phases until the 1960s to the lowest level of around 130 inhabitants before a growth phase with set strong fluctuations.
